BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Encino Owner’s Guide

BFT hinge and roller replacement in Encino typically runs $185 to $420 installed, depending on whether we’re swapping a single slide-gate roller assembly or rebuilding a pair of swing-gate hinges with new bearing pins. We stock BFT-compatible hinge and roller parts on the truck, and in most cases we can have your gate rolling or swinging smooth again the same day we look at it. The usual way people find us: the gate starts dragging, groaning, or leaning about a half inch lower than it did last month, and suddenly the opener is working twice as hard. That’s almost always a hinge or roller that’s been quietly wearing out for a year.

Here’s the thing about BFT hardware: it’s good Italian engineering, but every moving part has a service life, and the Encino sun plus the fine dust that blows down off the hills does not do that hardware any favors. The good news is you don’t need a new gate. You need the right part, installed straight. That’s what we do.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT uses different hinge and roller configurations across their lineup, and matching the right part matters. The slide-gate roller assemblies on BFT’s DEIMOS, TIZIANO, and ORO series take a four-bolt base plate with a sealed bearing roller, and the bolt spacing is not the same as LiftMaster or Viking, so don’t let anyone tell you it’s universal. BFT swing-gate hinges on the same residential lines are made to carry a specific gate leaf weight, usually up to about 880 pounds per leaf with the factory pintle. If your gate is heavier than that because someone hung a solid redwood panel on a frame built for lighter aluminum, the hinge will fail early no matter how good the part is.

To identify what you need, look for the silver BFT data tag on the operator or the gate frame. If it’s gone, measure the roller diameter and the bolt pattern center to center, and take a photo of the hinge with the gate in both open and closed position. We’ll match it. For BFT specifically, I usually recommend OEM or a direct-fit aftermarket part with the same load rating. There are cheap universal rollers for sale online that’ll fit the bolt holes but the bearing fails in six months. Around Encino, with the temperature swings we get between the valley floor and the hills, that’s a call I don’t want you making twice.

Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

  • The gate leans or sags toward the latch side. The hinge post is almost never the problem. The bearing inside the hinge has worn enough to let the leaf drop, and the gap at the top of the gate opens up. Once you see daylight where there used to be a straight line, the replacement’s overdue.
  • The gate scrapes or drags along the track or the driveway. A worn roller loses diameter and the gate rides lower until it’s grinding on the concrete or the bottom rail. You’ll see a shiny wear mark where it’s been rubbing.
  • A grinding, squealing, or clicking sound when the gate moves. Sealed bearings eventually lose their grease or get grit past the seal. That click or grind is metal running dry. It doesn’t heal itself.
  • The opener sounds strained or stops mid-cycle. BFT operators have obstruction-sensing built in, and when a dragging hinge or roller adds resistance, the board reads it as an obstacle and reverses or stops. People think it’s an electronics problem when it’s really a metal problem.
  • The gate rattles or shudders when it starts and stops. Play in the hinge pin or the roller axle shows up as that shaking at the start of travel. It’s the slop in the joint, and it only gets worse.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the straight math for Encino. A single slide-gate roller assembly replacement runs $185 to $260, parts and labor included. A pair of swing-gate hinge rebuilds with new bearing pins and bushings runs $300 to $420. If we’re replacing both rollers on a heavy sliding gate and welding in new mounting plates because the old ones cracked, you’re at the top of that range. The price we quote before we start is the price you pay when we’re done, every single time.

Job Typical Installed Price in Encino
Single slide-gate roller assembly $185 - $260
Both slide-gate rollers $320 - $410
Swing-gate hinge pair, bearing rebuild $300 - $420
Hinge or roller plate weld repair (if needed) $90 - $150 added

Every hinge and roller replacement carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise, written on the invoice. If it’s not right, I come back and make it right. No phone tag, no fine print. And since you’re already here: we knock $40 off any repair over $200, and if you’re a senior or veteran, that’s a permanent 10% off on top. Call (350) 247-4763 and we’ll get you a number you can hold us to.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do is read the gate. Check whether it leans, listen to it move, look for the wear marks I described. That tells us a lot before we ever put a wrench on it. What I would not recommend is pulling a swing gate off its hinges yourself. A gate that weighs 600 or 800 pounds becomes a different animal the moment it’s unbolted, and without the right blocking and a second set of hands, it can drop on you or fold the post. I’ve seen the aftermath of the weekend-versus-the-gate project, and it usually costs more to fix than the original repair would have.

If you want a second opinion on a written estimate from someone else, bring it to us. We’ll look at it free. And if the gate’s already leanin’ and you’d rather not watch it get worse, call (350) 247-4763 and we’ll be out.
