Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing

• Keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. The board is getting power but the relay isn’t tripping. Usually the keypad’s output transistor or the input channel on the board has gone dead.
• Gate opens from the remote but not from the keypad or call box. The operator and motor are fine; the access control receiver or the wiring between the call box and the board has failed.
• You have to punch the code two or three times before it registers. The buttons on the keypad membrane are worn or sun-baked. Encino’s UV exposure wrecks older keypad faces faster than the electronics inside fail.
• The gate opens by itself, usually in the late afternoon. This is the one that gets our full attention. Often it’s a photocell reflecting heat off a car or a wall, or a board input floating. It’s a security issue, not a quirk.
• Some codes work and some don’t. The FAAC board’s memory slots or programming got corrupted, which happens after power surges or brownouts. We reprogram or replace the board depending on what we find.

DIY or Call Us?

FAAC systems run on low-voltage DC, so the shock risk is minimal compared to line-voltage work. What you can safely check yourself: whether the transformer is warm and humming, whether the keypad’s ribbon cable is seated, and whether any wire nuts inside the box have loosened. That’s about it.

Here’s where DIY goes wrong: FAAC boards are sensitive to how they’re wired. Cross the wrong two terminals and you’ll smoke a $400 board in half a second. The programming sequences are also unforgiving, one wrong button press and you’ve erased every code in memory and now nobody can get in, including you.
